The code signing certificate order process :

The steps to order a certificate vary depending on the browser and version of Windows you are using. Don't be alarmed if you do not see some of the items on this list.
  1. Click the Buy Now button above that cooresponds to the certificate term you would like to purchase. Currently you can order 1, 2 or 3 year certificates (the price is $99 per year).
  2. If you have purchased a code signing certificate through Comodo before then you should NOT login using the username and password you created with your first order. You will have to place a new order and create a new Comodo account to get the discount pricing if you have ordered before. This does not add any additional validation to the order - renewal orders are always re-validated (a pointer to your previous order # to the Comodo validation team will greatly speed up the process!).
  3. Enter an optional contact email address - anything entered here will be available to the public through the certificate details.
  4. CSP - choose the default "Microsoft Enhanced Cryptographic Service Provider" (but there is no wrong choice).
  5. If the option for "Key Filename" is shown, select "In a File" and accept the default filename of "C:\mykey.pvk". While you can change this, we recommend using the default value.
  6. Choose a Key Size of 2048 or "High Grade", whichever is available.
  7. Make sure "Exportable" is checked if available.
  8. Make sure Protected is unchecked if available.
  9. Click the Next button at the bottom of the page.
  10. You may see a message that says "This Web site is requesting a new certificate on your behalf. Do you want to request a certificate now?" click Yes.
  11. You might see a message for "Potential Scripting Violation" - read the on-screen instructions and click Yes (or "install ActiveX control").
  12. The Create Private Key Password dialog box will be shown. If you would like to use a password to protect your private key you can enter it in the box provided. We recommend not password protecting your private key if you wish to sign files in a batch file.
  13. The next step is to enter in your company and contact details, and create a Comodo account for future management of your certificate(s). If you already logged in using an existing username and password then your details will be filled in automatically. You must provide a valid email address at a company domain (no free email accounts) - a valid phone number is also required. Comodo does validate both email addresses and phone number so please use "real" information.
  14. Read the Terms and Conditions and click "Agree and Proceed to Payment".
  15. Pay for the certificate.
The next step is to wait for Comodo's email. You will have to submit proof of identity by way of a utility bill, incorporation documents, bank statement, business license, etc. The validation guidelines are published by Comodo and available at http://www.instantssl.com/ssl-certificate-support/validation_guidelines_table.html.

Comodo will deliver your certificate by email and you must collect the certificate on the machine you used to place the order. Do not order your certificate from a public computer!
